Celebration of East Asian Civilizations

October Director’s Message

Dear Cogito Academy Lancaster families,

It was a privilege to be welcomed as your Interim School Director earlier in October. I bring a tremendous amount of experience in Core Knowledge and charter school operations from my time at Thomas Jefferson Academy in Forest City, NC.  If you did not have an opportunity to meet me at parent teacher conferences, please be on the lookout for a soon to be scheduled event one in mid November. You can also set up a meeting that fits your schedule.

We’re so excited to see all the amazing learning happening in our building! This month, students are dove into interactive lessons about ancient civilizations, the human body, and expanding their vocabulary.  With November upon us, we’re excited to celebrate Veterans Day, embark on field trips, and share the spirit of Thanksgiving with our school community.

Go Patriots!

Best,

Jason Cole

Interim School Director

Celebrating Early Asian Civilizations in Second Grade!

Our second graders had a fantastic time celebrating their learning about Early Asian Civilizations!  They made colorful paper lanterns and dragon masks, and even learned a fun dragon dance. Students read the book The Tray of Togetherness and enjoyed treats from their very own “Tray of Togetherness”. To wrap up the celebration, they practiced a few traditional Chinese phrases, gaining a deeper understanding of cultural traditions.

It was a joyful and engaging way for our students to celebrate their learning, culture, and community! Thank you so much Mrs. Harbin and Mrs. Johnson for doing this for our students!

5K Gets Moving with Phonics!

Our 5K students took their learning outside for a fun and active phonics lesson! They practiced blending sounds by jumping on three letters and then putting the sounds together to form a word. After blending, students challenged themselves by deciding whether the word was a real word or a nonsense word. This hands-on, energetic activity reinforced skills from our CKLA curriculum while giving students a chance to move and have fun outdoors!

First Grade Shows Off Their Human Body Knowledge!

Our first graders just wrapped up their CKLA unit on the human body, and they had a blast bringing what they learned to life! Students played Operation, created their own models of skeletons and organs, and even enjoyed a fun themed feast. It’s amazing to see our young scientists in action!

50s Day

Our 5K participants stepped back in time for a fun-filled ’50s Day! Everyone enjoyed blowing bubbles, snacking on 50s-themed treats, and listening to classic hits from the era. Kids and adults alike got into the spirit by dressing up in retro outfits while learning a little about the history of the 1950s.

It was a day full of laughter, music, and nostalgia — a perfect way to celebrate community, movement, and a little bit of vintage fun!

Cogito Academy Lancaster celebrated Red Ribbon Week from October 27th to the 31st.  Students participated in dress up days to show their commitment to be drug free.  The goal of Red Ribbon Week is to provide awareness, advocacy, and resources in nurturing a drug free life.
