Core Virtues
For the 2026–2027 school year, students in grades 4–6 will explore a monthly virtue that strengthens character, leadership, and empathy. These lessons help them grow into responsible, courageous, and thoughtful young adults.
August & September: Respect and Responsibility – Responsibility is doing your part for the groups that make us whole.
October: Self-Control and Self-Discipline – Self-control is stopping to think about my actions before I enact them. Self-discipline is giving the best of ourselves and saying “no” to our weaknesses.
November: Wonder – Wonder is to marvel at mystery, to stand in awe before the unexplained.
December: Charity – Charity is Love. Charity is selfless giving to those in need.
January: Courage – Courage is finding the strength to venture and persevere.
February: Love of Country – Love of Country means being devoted to our nation—loving its ideals, honoring its heroes, respecting its past, and working hard for a just and noble future.
March: Faithfulness – Faithfulness is standing by those we love, those we serve, and what we believe.
April: Graciousness and Courtesy – Graciousness is acting kindly and making others feel special. Courtesy is showing respect through kindness and politeness.
May: Joy – Joy is the fullness of spirit that blooms from the loving heart.
June: Lives to Learn From – Learn from those who act well, think well, forge new paths, and seek a better world.
Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA)
In fourth grade, students continue strengthening their literacy skills while engaging with increasingly complex texts through Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA).
In the Skills strand, instruction focuses on vocabulary development, word analysis, grammar, and writing across multiple genres. Students deepen their understanding of prefixes, suffixes, and root words while continuing to practice spelling, sentence structure, and editing skills. They write narratives, informational pieces, and responses to literature while developing the ability to organize ideas clearly and support them with evidence from texts.
In the Knowledge strand, students explore rich and varied topics that deepen their understanding of history, science, and literature. Units may include studies of geology, medieval history and empires, the American Revolution, poetry, and classic literature such as Treasure Island. Through reading, discussion, and research, students build background knowledge while practicing critical thinking and analysis.
Together, CKLA Skills and Knowledge strengthen students’ literacy abilities while expanding their understanding of the world and the ideas that shape it.

Eureka Math²
In fourth grade, students extend their understanding of place value to larger numbers and apply this knowledge to solve more complex problems. They develop fluency with multi-digit multiplication and division while continuing to strengthen their problem-solving and reasoning skills.
Students explore fractions more deeply by comparing, adding, and subtracting them, and they learn how fractions relate to decimals. They also investigate geometry concepts such as angles and lines, measure and classify shapes, and solve problems involving area and perimeter. Through these experiences, students learn to analyze problems carefully, use multiple strategies, and clearly communicate their mathematical thinking.
