Coming Soon: Eighth Grade

While we do not currently offer eighth grade, we are excited to continue growing! Beginning in the 2028–2029 school year, we will expand to include eighth grade as part of our commitment to providing a full, vertically aligned academic program.

Below is a preview of what our future eighth grade students will learn.

Core Virtues

Core Virtues

At our school, we believe that education goes beyond academics. Through our Core Virtues program, students intentionally develop strong character traits that guide their actions, decisions, and relationships.

Students are introduced to virtues such as respect, responsibility, perseverance, honesty, and compassion, and learn what these qualities look like in their daily lives. Through stories, discussions, and real-life applications, students reflect on their behavior, practice positive habits, and grow in self-discipline and integrity.

As students progress through each grade level, they deepen their understanding of these virtues and learn to apply them in more complex situations—both inside and outside the classroom.

By cultivating strong character alongside academic excellence, we are preparing students to become thoughtful leaders, responsible citizens, and individuals of integrity.

Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA)

In eighth grade, students refine their literacy skills and engage with complex, thought-provoking texts through Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA), preparing them for the demands of high school.

In the Skills strand, students deepen their understanding of vocabulary, grammar, and writing by studying Greek and Latin roots and advanced language structures. Instruction emphasizes analyzing theme, point of view, and author’s purpose, while also strengthening students’ ability to evaluate arguments and use textual evidence. Students write across a variety of genres, including narratives, personal essays, research-based informational writing, persuasive essays, multimedia presentations, and creative works such as plays and sonnets. They continue to develop strong editing and revising skills while applying advanced grammar concepts such as verbals, verb mood, and formal writing conventions.

In the Knowledge strand, students explore a diverse range of literary and historical texts, including contemporary short stories, Frankenstein, Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, works from the Harlem Renaissance, civil rights speeches and essays, historical fiction, and classic satire such as The Importance of Being Earnest. Through these texts, students examine themes such as identity, justice, freedom, cultural expression, and the human experience. Through reading, discussion, and writing, they analyze complex ideas, compare perspectives, and build a deeper understanding of literature, history, and society.

Together, CKLA Skills and Knowledge prepare students for high school by strengthening their ability to think critically, communicate effectively, and engage thoughtfully with complex texts and ideas.

Eureka Math²

Eureka Math²

In eighth grade, students focus on the concepts that prepare them for high school mathematics, especially linear relationships and functions. They learn to write, graph, and interpret linear equations, analyze slope and rate of change, and compare different representations of relationships between quantities.

Students extend their understanding of numbers by working with exponents and scientific notation, allowing them to represent very large and very small numbers. They also explore geometric concepts such as transformations, similarity, and the Pythagorean theorem, applying these ideas to solve problems in the coordinate plane. Students analyze patterns in data using scatter plots and linear models, developing the mathematical reasoning and problem-solving skills needed for future algebra courses.
