Lancaster, SC - Cogito Academy has been awarded a $30,000 Summer Reading Camp Community Partnership Grant from the South Carolina Department of Education, further advancing the school’s commitment to strong literacy outcomes and student success.
The competitive grant will support Cogito Academy’s summer reading camp, an initiative designed to provide targeted instruction, enrichment opportunity, and additional academic resources to help students build and strengthen foundational reading skills. The funding is part of a statewide effort to expand access to high-quality summer reading camps through partnerships that serve students in high-need communities.
The Summer Reading Camp Community Partnership Grant is awarded based on a rigorous application and review process, recognizing schools that demonstrate a clear, strategic plan for supporting students who could use additional literacy help. Funds are intended to support programs that incorporate tutoring, mentorship, and engaging literacy-based activities to accelerate student growth.
“This is an exciting opportunity for our school, and most importantly, for our students,” said Van Steen, incoming School Director for Cogito Academy. “This grant allows us to be intentional in how we support our readers over the summer months. We are committed to creating an environment where students feel confident, supported, and inspired to grow, and this funding helps us take that work even further.”
Through this partnership with SCDE, Cogito Academy will continue to prioritize literacy as a foundation for long-term academic achievement. The summer program will offer a structured yet engaging learning environment where students can improve reading proficiency, gain confidence, and prepare for the upcoming school year.
This recognition reflects Cogito Academy’s ongoing dedication to academic excellence and its mission to ensure every student has access to the tools and support needed to succeed; both in the classroom and beyond.
